"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common that unsuccessful men of talent. Genius will not... the world is full of uneducated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." -- Calvin Coolidge, 30th president of the United States

A dream, or a goal is like one big jigsaw puzzle. In a jigsaw puzzle, pieces have to be put together, in proper order and formation, to form an expected figure or picture. People who are talented will never feel fulfilled solving a puzzle that will not challenge them at all. This also goes for people of genius. A sense of fulfillment is important because, without it, no dream would have been persisted on in the first place. Therefore, people never dream of being what they can be at the press of a button. They dream dreams that seem unreachable at first, dreams where the end can only be imagined, but not attained unless a great amount of will and painful persistence is exerted; dreams much like jigsaw puzzles.

But why do we fail?

People fail because they do not plan well;they end up losing precious time and before they know it, they're dead.
People fail because they give up.
People fail because they are afraid.
People fail because they do not have the right mindset while trying to achieve their dreams.
People fail because they are distracted.
People fail because they cannot distinguish which piece is which.
People fail because they work for something detrimental to everyone, and therefore they do not feel good working for it, because humans are essentially good.
People fail because they look up to the wrong people (we become the people really look up to).
People fail because they they take a road too often trod on that they feel that they are doing nothing new.
People fail because they end up feeling tired.
People fail because they do not know what to do at certain situations.
People fail because despite all the encouragement, the philosophies, the wisdom, the strength, the bravery, they still choose the wrong way to solve one puzzle.

The only way, however, to solve a puzzle, is to solve it step by step, piece by piece, and pattern by pattern. There is no other way. This is the hard part, since we want things to happen instantly many times. This is also where persistence comes in.

We were born for higher things, things even more challenging than jigsaw puzzles.

However, come to think of it, as children, we had a passion for solving every puzzle we get our hands on. Why do most adults now get tired of puzzles, when as children they were passionate about them? It speaks a lot about how most of us deal with our dreams and goals.

He’s got a point there, you know? Where has that passion gone? Is our passion to solve puzzles just a childish game? Well, I say it shouldn’t be! We are over-flowing with too much potential, but we fail because we are either too lazy or too scared to face a few challenges. But come to think of it, what are a few challenges against what we can achieve? Like Mikee Lee said, we are born for higher things… Things more challenging than simple jigsaw puzzles…

Hmm... Interaction. It's an 11-lettered word which means: to act on each other. That's what it is according to my dictionary. But I learned that it was something more.

What does interaction really mean to us?

According to Karla: Interaction is an opportunity to open new doors to welcome new friends.

She's right in that aspect! But somehow I want more opinions... Never mind. I'll add them when I get them.

Maybe I could get the answer to my question by simple narrating our interaction this morning with Claret.

===================================================================

We had our interaction with Claret last September 21, 2006. Hmm... I guess we really wanted to make a good impression on the Claretians. Hehehehe! Anyway, we made a lot of noise in preparing for the interaction. We were really excited! STC is an exclusive school, remember?! So, sorry for being excited.

Seriously, what's it with my class and late-comers?! The guys arrived a little late. That also happened last year with Ateneo, right, former II - 6 girls?! Anyway, we forgive them, because we really enjoyed it. First we had a few "getting to know you/ice breaker" activities. I guess we used this as a chance to chat and ask for each other's YM addresses! Hahaha!  Back to the point... we really enjoyed each other's company! At least we Theresians enjoyed their company. I hope they enjoyed ours too...

Come intermission time... Nikki, Patch, Kim, Ivana, Steff, Barbs, and I were the dancers for the intermission. I really wanted to back out since I sucked big time! Ask anyone in III - 1, she'll tell you! Anyway, I'm glad I didn't quit. Our costume was our PE uniform with a jacket. I'm surprised that I wasn't booed out of the stage! Hahaha!  .Then the band (Kimmy, Anel, DK, Kai, and Pae) performed next. First they performed Hiling by Paramita. Oh my gosh... Kimmy is the best guitarist I've ever seen! I really like the way Pae plays the drums... Rock on! \m/ Hahaha! Galing!  Then the Claretians performed next. The band played lots of songs... Your Song, Crazy for You, Magasin... (Is that it? If there are more... Kindly correct me!

After that awarding came. Maki and a guy named Miguel won the best mask award. (hahaha! M&M???) Then for Killer Smile, Karla and a guy named Carlo won. (Karla, Carlo? Compatible!!!! hahahaha!) Then Tina and Patch also won Miss Interaction (ata!) and Miss Congeniality respectively... I forgot how to spell the name of Tina's counterpart... (sorry...), but I know that people were shouting at him to kiss Tina or something like that! But a guy named Warren won Mr. Congeniality... I swear, he looks like Harry Potter or a male version of Karen. No offense Warren, if ever you read this! Sorry! Peace?!

Soon... the interaction was over... Aww... Why does time seem so short when you are enjoying yourself? We found our interaction too short for our liking! So afterwards, it was back to earth for us Theresians... I have to feel sorry for Mrs. Valencia though. She couldn't find a person who wasn't suffering from "interaction hang-over", as I call it. We were all asking each other whom we found cute, or who we liked a lot... Heheheh! Poor Miss...

====================================================================

Yeah, I guess Karla's definition interaction seems to hit the nail on the head, but I want to add something more. Sure, we may meet each other through interaction, but what happens after? Will the friendship last? Will the ties we made today remain, or will they be severed by time and distance?

I hope not. I know you're all screaming: THAT'S WHY WE HAVE YM!

The dictionary is partly right. We really do act on each other when we first encounter each other. But will we continue to interact with each other once interaction is over? I really hope so. I suppose interaction is the foundation of friendships, but it is up to us to build on  that foundation to make it last...
